Rising: Book Club Questions

If you're looking to do a book club meeting using Rising as your book you're in luck! Not only can you get a free copy using the button at the bottom of this post, but we have some question starters you can use. These try to be more book-specific than ones you may find on a general board. If you have suggestions on questions to add please send them to me on Facebook or Instagram.

  1. What is the theme set up in the second chapter? Why is it important?
  2. Why do you think Margorim tries to stop Cedrick from using magic?
  3. Have you seen family conflicts like this in your life?
  4. The series is inspired by the tales of Merlin. Can you see the connections? Which characters inspired the ones we see in the book?
  5. What kind of setting is this fantasy world in? Some people see more medieval, but some words in the book sound more renaissance. What do you think?
  6. How would you explain the magic system? Closer to hard magic? Soft magic? (A good topic to discuss if anyone in the group doesn't know what this means. if you read a lot of fantasy, it's a great topic.)
  7. How is Cedrick similar to his siblings? How isn't he?
  8. What is Elphacena's role in the story? Why was she needed? Was she?
  9. How did you feel about the ending? Was it a surprise? Why or why not.
  10. The role of a Custod is a tad unique. Can you think of similar systems? Do you think it's a good form of government and peace enforcement? Why or why not?
  11. If you could as the author one question, what would it be? (And guess what, you can! Send me your questions on my Facebook, or Instagram.
